Being a good example of Christ

Someone is watching you all of the time did you know that? As you move through life, you come into contact with so many people in just one day. The bank lady, the checker at Safeway, the attendant at the gas station.

How many people can you come into contact with in one day? What kind of “impression” are you leaving with these people? Is it a good one?

The Holy Spirit led me to teach on this detail today of being a good example. I want the followers of our Lord Jesus to know just how important it is to be a good example not only to good friends and other Christians at our church, but to everyone you come into contact with.

Timothy was being watched by people. He was young and like Jesus they waited for mistakes. But because of Timothy’s integrity and good example,  Paul could teach others how to live through Timothy.

Let’s look at the scripture:

1 Tim. 4:12

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers(B) an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Set an example in speech and conduct, in love and in faith, and in purity. Very Powerful.

PART ONE:  Let’s look at some scriptures and what they say about Being a good example.

Matthew 10:38

Amplified Bible (AMP)

38And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me acleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me.

Matthew 16:24

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [ cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].

1 Corinthians 11:1

1PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).

Philippians 3:17

Brethren, together follow my example and observe those who live after the pattern we have set for you.

PART TWO: It’s very important to watch what comes out of your mouth.  The tongue is a double edged sword.

Job 15:6

Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; yes, your own lips testify against you.

Hear the words of David:

Psalm 39:1

I SAID, I will take heed and guard my ways, that I may sin not with my tongue; I will muzzle my mouth as with a bridle while the wicked are before me.

David knew. He begged God, let me not SIN with my tongue Lord. I will muzzle my mouth!

Proverbs 6:2

You are snared with the words of your lips, you are caught by the speech of your mouth.

Don’t be caught in a lie. Don’t be the bad example that slid someone downhill. You never know who is going through the minds of people that you deal with or meet on the street. They may be contemplating suicide, they may be on their last leg financially.

Be the light, be the foundation and let Jesus love shine through you. Let people know about Christ through your EXAMPLE, and not just your words.

James 3:10

Out of the same mouth come forth blessing and cursing. These things, my brethren, ought not to be so.

CONCLUSION:

1. We are to be examples.  Be kind with your words to others. Don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk as well. Others will never give you the respect unless you walk what you teach. You must be a good example.

If someone were to follow your lead, where would they end? Heaven and blessing? Or Hell and misery?

Yours in Christ,

Phil Fischer
