God’s children will make promises with the best of intentions and yet often fail to keep them. Broken promises lead to broken trust and wounded relationships. Thankfully, the promises of God are always faithful and true.
Therefore, only God can truly satisfy the human heart and spirit. He promises us grace, strength, courage, hope, love, forgiveness, a faithful relationship and so much more. No man or woman, no child or bank account will completely meet our expectations or desires. We can’t rely on others the way we can rely on our Creator. Only a fool thinks true happiness can be found apart from God. Sadly, many try to attain our goals through self-reliance or intentional and willful disobedience to God’s commands.
As you mature in Christ and grow in your spiritual walk, you realize that God is your only hope for complete fulfillment. Do you crave love, forgiveness, encouragement, and peace? Do you long for safety, protection, and a long lasting and committed relationship? Does a place of rest and healing sound good to you? God promises to meet all of these needs, so long as we believe in Jesus and walk in obedience to His commands. “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV) “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
Psalm 84:11 (NKJV) Only God satisfies. ONLY GOD SATISFIES.
Let this truism settle down deep inside your heart. It is the unveiled truth. Command this idea to chase, repel, and extricate all the lies the Devil has successfully planted in your spirit. Forget about finding happiness and fulfillment in your spouse, friend, or child. Fulfillment comes only when you are totally invested in your relationship with God. Our God gives unending grace. Grace enables us to carry on, completing the works He has prepared for us to accomplish. He is our sun and shield. This means He is our guide and source of protection. He promises to show us which way to go on our journey in life. Since God is a teacher, He knows the importance of educating His children.
Being all wise and wonderful, He knows not to hand out tasks without properly equipping His children. One of His many promises is that He will instruct and teach us. He will often accomplish this by using the Holy Spirit to guide us. If you are on a mission to find satisfaction in this world, apart from God, you will spend the rest of your life chasing an impossible dream. Only God can completely satisfy you. Sure, you may think you have experienced fleshly moments of satisfaction, but if you are REALLY honest with yourself…. You’ll admit that those moments have only brought you into a deeper despair and a more desperate longing for fulfillment. They did not produce contentment and peace.
God will satisfy your longings the moment you lay your will down and ask God to make His will your own. Once His will becomes your will, everything coming your way will be satisfying and fulfilling. Food, money, people, and other possessions will never give you the satisfied contentment that comes from knowing you have entered into a personal relationship with God. “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ’I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.’” Isaiah 48:18 (NKJV) “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Psalm 32:8 (NKJV)
